OK, so Lani is putting a post here, as Sherdon burnt himself out on the political dialogue of the previous post.
Here are a few pics of my first Texas Sheet Cake in Texas. I've made them in other states, but it just isn't the same, because as you know, Everything is BIGGER and Better in Texas.
So, the kids loved it, Sherdon didn't. He never has. That's OK. He's outnumbered now. It brought back memories of my childhood and the after-school snack of Texas Sheet Cake. It's OK mom, I forgive you for the lack of health-consciousness. There were many a peach/tomato/fresh garden fruit or veggie after school snacks as well.

I can't believe that it took Sherdon this long to get burnt out. He has quite the opinion. As well as the rest of the Cordovas. I was afraid that we were going to have a feud on our hands.
That cake looks AMAZING, by the way. This is not a good time for me to get a sweet tooth...
Hmmmm, it doesn't LOOK bigger than a normal Texas sheet cake. :-) Perhaps the taste is just enhanced. Looks delicious. In fact, I think I'll make one for dessert while Zach is still out of town. He's not crazy about it either.
YUMMY! I'm glad that you and the kids enjoyed it! I'm glad you are posting too now!
YUMMMM! I sure like a good sheet cake.
I have a request: Lani should start a food blog so I can snag all of her great food ideas!!! How about it huh? Yum!
That's funny Jackie. You're the one with all the great food ideas. And the best part is you actually show us how you do it all. That is truly greatness if you ask me. I guess I don't think I do anything good enough that anyone would want to know how to do it. Although the tamales we made today were pretty awesome, but I'm just learning still.
If I ever cook anything good, it is only because either my husband or I (or my kids) like to eat it!

Lani, our family devours Quinoa every chance we get now because of you! We still remember the meal you gave us when Aedan was born (over 2yrs ago!) and we still drool over it!
I don't think your kids realize what a great cook their mom is - when we stayed at your place to watch the kids I cooked something for them and they literally told me "it needs more salt" or "it needs more garlic" and you know, they were right! They must have it real good over there!
Not as good as Neal and Aedan have it over there!
Thanks for being so complimentary.
Lani
Yummy!!! I love sheet cake! Your kids look like mine licking the bowl!
We miss you guys! Keep the blogs coming! JaL
For those of us who have never attempted a sheet cake...recipe?!?
Looks delicious.
(And we are having pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for snack after school today...pumpkin is a veggie, right?!?)
Sherdon, Oh my gosh!! I have thought about you so much over the last couple of years. I've even mentioned it to my mom and asked her how to get a hold of you and where you are. How the heck are you and your beautiful family? I can't believe how many kids you have! It's been what, 10 years since I've seen you!!! Email me your phone number so I can call you guys. I'm so glad to find your blog. I just started blogging too, its so much fun! I can't wait to catch up. You have no idea how much I've thought about you guys. Talk to you soon! Love Erika Baird (Finch)
Hey can you guys send us your new address, I only have the old one. You can send it to me at tbpiggy@hotmail.com. Your family is beautiful!
Hey Anne said you thought I was hiding from the law. My email is jennmom@hotmail.com, our blog is kjmadsen.blogspot.com. I'm pretty sure I put you on the list when I went private. If not let me know I"ll send you an invite.
Sherdon, Thanks for keeping up on Hawleyfocus. I check out your gang every once in a while too. I hope you are enjoying military life...there are +/- to everything but all in all its been a good move for us. No debt and a worry free job that gives me time to be with my family and get to know my kids.
I love tamales, let me say that again, I LOVE TAMALES! Count your blessings to have that abundance. I know what you mean about hoarding food too, the crabapple jelly I made was so good that I hardly want to use it, much less give it away as gifts. I hope that the tree I grabbed the apples from this year on base isnt slated for removal under the construction plan or I will have to find another source for apples. My only regret is that I didnt grab more apples.
I really like doing the canning thing, the girls help a little and I know that I am teaching them a little about taking care of themselves. The last thing I want to do is produce another kid that doesnt know how to take care of themself. I am amazed at how many people in this Left wing, Obamaized, enlightened nation that we live in would starve even if given a live chicken cause they wouldnt know how to open it and get the meat out. Teach your kids to be able to care for themselves, that means shooting and eating animals as well as replacing a car battery... My three year old hit a soup can with the pellet gun already. I could rant for hours, sorry but living in a Starbucks saturated city has just about turned me into a survivalist recluse.
